Digital Language Lab

The Digital Language Lab functioning under the Department of English was established in the year 2006-07, by the initiatives of Prof. Sahasranaman, former HOD of English and Prof. T. N. Ravi, who was then the Head of the Department of Electronics. It is a spacious lab with all modern facilities for fine-tuning the language skills of the learners. Besides, the Language Lab Software is periodically updated to cope with the changing requirements and trends.  The configuration of the computers also is updated as required with the assistance of PTA and CDC funding periodically. It has been Air-Conditioned to ensure cleanliness and a convenient ambience. The facilities in the Digital Language Lab are the following. 

Objectives of the Digital Language Lab

1.       To provide opportunity to improve LSRW skills assisted by technology

2.       To familiarize students with the changing trends in language use

3.       To afford facility to students to do project works and improve typing skills

4.       To provide opportunity to access the Digital Library Collection of the Department and INFLIBNET

5.       To create a platform for students to contribute creatively to the innovative practices in academic and co-curricular areas.

Extension services by the Digital Language Lab

1.       Offering the facilities of the Lab for the conduct of practical examinations of B. Com and BBA of Kannur University.

2.       The lab is utilized for conducting the Computer Training Programmes of Kerala  Women Development Corporation

3.       The facilities of the Lab are offered for the ASAP Training Programme offered to the trainees both from and outside the college.

4.       The lab is also used for the conduct of test conducted by the British Council to the trainees of ASAP.

Functioning of the laboratory.

The Digital Language Lab is monitored by Prof. Shibu K. J of the Department of English. Students who use the lab register their time of entry and exist in the logbook, and they use the systems assigned to them by the supervising teacher. Students are also advised to utilize the facilities for the data collection of their project works, exploration of the Digital Library Collection offered by the department, and for accessing the service of INFLIBNET. Besides, those students who wish to improve their typing skills are also advised to regularly use the service of the Language Lab.
