BHOOMITHRASENA CLUB

The BhoomithraSena  Club started its activities in the campus since 2011-12 academic year onwards. The main objective of the club is creating awareness among the students and general public about the necessity of environment protection. Department of environment & climate change provide proper direction for the smooth functioning of the club. A Faculty co-coordinator (FIC) and a leader from the part of club members are appointed to co-ordinate the activities of the Club. The activities is mainly concentrated on environmental issues so that we organize environmental issues based awareness classes, essay writing competition, water color painting competition etc  for school and college students of the District. Besides this we undertake community survey, nature study camp, seminars, cleaning activities and also awareness programme among the general public. The members of the club are selected from 2nd and 3rd year degree students and the number limited to fifty as per the direction of parent Department.

Activities

2013-14

The essay competition in connection with World Environment Day was conducted in the college on 12-06-2012.The Topic of the subject was “Energy Conservation –importance and challenges”. Twenty Eight students from various department were  actively participated in this competition.

Campus Cleaning and planting of seedlings inside the campus.

Anti War message was given in the Campus through the exhibition of posters and slogans in connection with Hiroshima and Nagasaki day.

Water color painting competition for High school students. Students from Twelve High Schools was participated in the competition. The subject for the competition was “Pathetic Condition of Rural Area”. 

2012-13

The essay competition in connection with World Environment Day was conducted in  the college on 12-06-2012.The Topic of the subject was“Waste Management”.

One day Cleaning Programme and planting of seedlings  inside the campus. Principal Dr. K C Mathew  inaugurated this function by planting a seedling inside the campus.

Awareness Class on Monsoon  related diseases . The  resource person  explained about  monsoon related diseases which are harmful to the society. He emphasis the importance of effective waste management to reduce various epidemics. In this programme 25 Club Members were selected for conducting awareness message in the AdivasiColony . Special orientation was also given to the selected Club Members. The selected club members visited PathrichalAdivasi Colony on 21-07-2012and given awareness about the importance of effective waste management & various measures for reducing the spread of monsoon related diseases. Thepeople freely interacted with the  club members and they explained various problems facing them ,especially lack of  medical facilities. 

Hiroshima & Nagasaki Day: Anti War message was given in the Campus. Posters were exhibited inside the Campus.

Conducted  Two day Community Survey in Edavaka Grama Panjayath to Collect  information about the system of Waste Management prevailing among the general public in this area. Club Members collected information about the measures adopted by them for waste disposal. Majority among them maintained the system for disposal of waste at source. The main problem they faced in this regard is disposal of plastic and solid waste. In all houses there exist waste disposal pits. These pits are use for dumping waste and burning plastic materials.

Conducted one day seminar on Environmental Issues of Wayanad District. The Seminar Was inaugurated by Dr. K C Mathew, Principal of the College. Five Selected Club Members presented the issues and discussed the same. Wet Land And Paddyland Conservation is the main Problem faced in the District, these land is recently used for non-agriculture and construction purposes. Deforestation in the district also came under the discussion

Conducted Documentary exhibition, titled ‘Puzha’.This Documentary explains the tragedy of the people living  in the shore of Chaliarpuzha. It is an experience  to the club members  to know how people are affected by the death of  a water source
