During the last four decades, Kerala has attained worldwide acclaim for its achievements in the social sector, particularly in health and education system. But the performance of the industrial sector has not been keeping pace with the potential of the state. Government of Kerala has recognized this factor and has instituted bold and forward looking measures to tap the unique strengths of the state aimed at providing a suitable stimulus for industrial growth.  

The Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Kerala, in association With Education Department formulated a scheme to set up “Entrepreneurship Development Clubs” in schools and colleges of the State to inculcate “Entrepreneurship Culture”, amongst youth and equip them with the skills, techniques and confidence to act as torch-bearers of “Enterprise” for the new generation.  The Entrepreneurship Development Club started its functioning in the college from 18th October 2006, with the mission “To create wealth and employment commensurate with unlimited natural and immense human resource potential of Kerala by developing entrepreneurship in the youth.”The formal inauguration of the club was on 15th December 2006, by the Principal of the college. Since then several activities were undertaken by the Club.

Objectives of the Club

To inculcate social virtues i.e., trustworthiness, integrity, hard work, discipline, honesty, etc as constituents of entrepreneurship.

To sensitize students on the real economic and industrial development scenario of the state.

To make them aware of the unlimited development potential of the State and to inculcate entrepreneurial culture in the students.

T o enable them to take informed decisions to bring in successful entrepreneur and students on a common platform.

To motivate members on various dimensions of industry to nurture the latent entrepreneurial talent.

Functions of the Club

Organize interactive sessions with successful entrepreneurs from outside as well as within the State.

Organize workshops/debates, industrial visits to business enterprises within/outside the State.

Interaction with the promotional agencies.

Exposure to national and international events in various parts of the country related to industrial developments.

Organize Entrepreneurship Clinics and Entrepreneur Awareness Programme.

To introduce talented youths to industrial research organizations.

To familiarize the youths to the latest developments through media.

Activities of the Club

The entrepreneurship Club was officially inaugurated by the Principal Prof:K.Kunhikannan on 15th December,2006.The Presidential Address was delivered by Prof: K.P.Asees, The Vice Principal. The keynote address was delivered by Sri.Mathai (Taluk Industrial Officer).The function was felicitated by Prof: K.N.Hansa (HOD, Commerce),Sri.Sunil Kumar(Co-ordinator ED Club)and Rafeeque.K (College Union Chairman).

An awareness programme “Youth Entrepreneurship and Local Development” was organized by the club on 22-07-2007.The session was handled by Prof: Nishad. K (Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Farook College, Calicut)

A seminar on “Youth Entrepreneurship as Career” was organized by the Club on 11-10-2008.Prof:  Tojo (Assistant Professor in Economics, NMSM Government College, Kalpetta).

“Good Practices for Youth Entrepreneurship” a training session was organized by the Club on 12th September, 2010. The training session was initiated by The District Industries Centre, Wayanad.

An awareness programme was conducted by the Club on “Small enterprises in the local community” on 5th October, 2011. The talk was delivered by Sri.Hamam Ali (Assistant professor, PG Department of Commerce, Farook College, Calicut )

An Orientation Programme was organized by the Club on “Entrepreneurial Activities among Youth” in association with the District Industries Centre, Wayanad, on 12th September, 2012. Training was given to the students, on making different products in their home.

The Club has organized a seminar on “Entrepreneurship and Innovation” as a part of State Entrepreneurship Day celebrations, on 12th September 2013.The presentation was delivered by Sri.Gopinathan(Vocational Higher Secondary Teacher, GVHSS, Munderi, Kalpetta)
