The National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) was established under the NCC act 1948 aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. The NCC unit of Government College Mananthavady has both senior division (SD) for boys and senior wing (SW) for girls with a combined cadet strength of 106. Students enrolled with NCC have opportunities to visit foreign countries through Youth Exchange Program (YEP). Besides they can participate in Republic Day parade at Rajpath, various adventure camps, Thal Sainik Camp, leadership training camps, national integration camps etc to mould their character. Currently NCC enrollment for SD and SW is for three years and the cadets will write their ‘B’ certificate exam at the end of second year and C certificate exam after three years of NCC service. The following table illustrates the involvement of NCC in various programmes.
